E.J. Kuiper

E.J. Kuiper joined the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOL Health) in 2024, bringing more than two decades of distinguished leadership in Catholic healthcare to his role as president and chief executive officer. Recognized for his visionary leadership and commitment to operational excellence, Kuiper previously served as the CEO of the Midwest Division at CommonSpirit Health, overseeing 28 hospitals across four states. With a deep-rooted faith and a track record of success in enhancing patient and employee satisfaction, he is leading FMOL Health into its next chapter of growth and service to the Gulf South community.
Originally from the Netherlands, Kuiper’s journey in healthcare began when he was recruited by Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in 1991. Rising through the ranks from physical therapist to COO of a Florida-based facility, he holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine and a Master of Science in health services administration from Florida Gulf Coast University.
Kuiper oversees all strategic initiatives and operations for the $4.2 billion, 1,700-licensed-bed, not-for-profit, integrated healthcare organization serving multiple regional markets in Louisiana and Mississippi. The health system achieved unprecedented financial results and growth in fiscal year 2025 – the highest in its 100+ year history – enabling further significant investment in the organization and its team members. Recognized by multiple publications as a Health System CEO to Know and one of the Most Influential People in Healthcare, Kuiper's main focus is on creating an optimal environment for the team members of FMOL Health and access to world class healthcare for all those in need.
