In Honor of Dinos Constantinides

Composer and Boyd Professor Dinos Constantinides has spent 53 years transforming the lives of students within LSU’s School of Music. Dinos and his beloved wife, Judy, have decided to solidify their unrelenting support of LSU’s music program by establishing the Constantinides New Music Ensemble Endowment. Now, they ask all those who have been touched by Dr. Constantinides’ talents in teaching, composition and artistry to contribute to the Constantinides New Music Ensemble Support Fund, which will bolster the endowed fund created by Dinos and Judy.
After studying music theory and violin at the Greek Conservatory in Athens, Juilliard School of Music, and Indiana University, and composition at Michigan State University, Constantinides began an illustrious career as a composer, violinist and conductor. He has received an impressive array of grants, commissions and awards in his career, and tirelessly used his successes for the betterment of his students at LSU. Under his tutelage, his students have become renowned artists in their own right — going on to win national and international awards in both composition and performance. A number of them have followed his lead even more closely and now hold professorships in the US, England, China, Brazil and Canada. Over the course of his career, Dr. Constantinides became head of the Composition area, and later became the only Boyd Professor — the highest honor at LSU — in the School of Music.
For those who know Dr. Constantinides, his concern for his students at this juncture
in his life is no surprise. The Dinos Constantinides New Music Ensemble has long been
a dream of the Greek-born composer’s. The investment made by the couple directly benefits
the students that Dr. Constantinides has so loved working with. Dinos and Judy have
dedicated their lives to the improvement of the Baton Rouge community and to causes
they are passionate about. On their behalf, LSU Foundation now proudly invites their
friends and loved ones to contribute to the perpetuation of their legacy at LSU.
