In Memory of Brooks Michael Prejean

Brooks Michael Prejean was a beloved son, a loving brother, and a faithful friend. He passed away on September 15, 2024, at the age of twenty-one. Brooks was a radiant soul whose life, although much too brief, was marked by substantial achievement and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
A proud graduate of the Episcopal School of Acadiana’s Class of 2021, Brooks built his character, academic foundation, and a strong group of friends during his high school years. At ESA, Brooks was an active member of the basketball and baseball teams where his leadership and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on teammates, peers, and teachers alike.
Brooks continued to blossom at Louisiana State University, where he was a Senior and a Biology Major diligently preparing for a future career as a physician. Brooks was a consummate student - his academic prowess evident by achieving his name on the President’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List every semester. Brooks earned both the Tiger Excellence Scholar Resident Award and the Louisiana Tiger Legacy Superior Award as a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, LSU’s largest premedical society. Brooks was dedicated to serving others in his pursuit of medicine and his commitment was visible to his family, friends, professors, and mentors. Brooks’ potential was recognized when he was chosen as a top premed student to participate in the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans’ Narrative Medicine Program.
Brooks was also a dedicated advocate for his fellow LSU students and served on the LSU Student Government as the Assistant Director of Student Outreach. His community involvement and leadership extended to the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, where Brooks was known for his camaraderie and commitment to the fraternity’s values.
Outside of academics at LSU, Brooks volunteered for The Hospice of Baton Rouge at Baton Rouge General Hospital. He was also a part time Organ Recovery Technician for the Southern Eye Bank where Brooks reveled in playing his part helping others in the restoration of their sight.
Brooks was intelligent, kind, compassionate, and dedicated. Brooks was an extraordinary person who pursued his dreams with fervor. He made an impact on many lives with his warmth, generosity, drive for excellence and genuine passion for making a difference — Brooks was a gift. His memory will continue to inspire his family and countless friends who had the privilege of knowing him.
Although his time with us was far too short, Brooks will be remembered with fondness, a deep gratitude for all the gifts he left behind, and unconditional love.
