During LSU's summer commencement ceremony, John Turner and Hango Fischer were awarded honorary doctorates in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to LSU, the College of Music & Dramatic Arts, and the resulting positive impact on performing arts in this area.
In 2018, their transformational investment established the John G. Turner and Hango G. Fischer Center for Opera and helped make possible the renovation of the School of Music's recital hall, which will officially open this fall as the John G. Turner & Hango G. Fischer Recital Hall. Through endowed scholarships alone, they have supported more than 110 LSU students pursuing their artistic and professional aspirations.
Turner is the third member of his family to receive this distinction, following honorary doctorates previously awarded to his parents, the late Bert Turner and Sue Turner.
