Why did you choose to attend LSU?
I wasn’t convinced that LSU was right for me until I toured the Honors College during Scholar’s Weekend. It was then that I realized that LSU takes their academics just as seriously as their football and that LSU has the resources to help me accomplish my goals for the future.

What extracurricular programs are you involved in?
I’m excited to be serving as Collegiate 4-H’s Campus Life Representative this year. I’m also a member of the Pre-Vet Club, the Society for Wetland Scientists, and the Equestrian Team. I’m volunteering for Companion Animal Alliance with their Fit with Fido program, and I’m volunteering as a virtual English teacher with the International and American Student Alliance. I’m also super excited to be working in Dr. Andy Nyman’s research lab.

What does receiving the Stamps Scholarship mean to you and your family?
Receiving the Stamps Scholarship is nearly indescribable. In high school, I often felt misunderstood by my peers and even my teachers about the high expectations I set for myself and my future goals. Being named a Stamps Scholar validated everything I worked for in high school and connected me with a network of high-achieving individuals that welcome and encourage my interests. I am proud to be a first-generation college student, and Stamps has given me the financial freedom to enrich undergrad experiences like study abroad and research and make my dream of veterinary school possible.

What is your favorite memory as an LSU Stamps Scholar?
My favorite memory as a Stamps Scholar is simply spending time with my cohort. During our first week at LSU, my cohort went for a socially distanced picnic on the parade grounds. It was so great to finally meet everyone and see the varieties of interests and backgrounds represented in our group. I think we would all agree that we mesh well and are looking forward to the next four years with each other!
