Described as the lifeblood of the WBRZ telecasting operation, Clyde Pierce, an employee at the station for 43
years was a legendary Louisiana broadcast technician – working in the engineering department for the Manship
family’s pioneering television station since 1976. He became the chief engineer in 1991.
Before leading the day-to-day engineering operations, Pierce was a steward of the then-burgeoning satellite
video network. In the early-80’s, he managed WBRZ’s satellite operations unit. Outfitted with one of the
country's first satellite television production trucks, Pierce managed the production necessities of
connecting video from studios and equipment on land, into outer space and back. Clyde Pierce’s life-long
commitment to broadcasting was never ignored. Earlier this year, he was honored by his colleagues state-wide
as the best engineer through the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters’ annual spotlight of an engineer of
the year. The initial goal of the Clyde Pierce Memorial Fund is to support a student in the form of a
scholarship or award, focused on students studying broadcasting. The LSU Foundation will work with a lead
donor or other representative to establish the purpose of tribute funds contributed through this effort.
This individual will also represent all donors for any needed revision to the purpose of the fund. LSU
Foundation will share notices about memorial gifts with Mr. Pierce's family. We do not share the gift amount
unless a donor explicitly gives us permission to do so.
